Guilds in the Empire

As a result of the 2nd Imperial Decree, there are Guilds which regulate the activities of all professions, crafts and trading within the Empire. Several of these exist as a result of further Decrees or Declarations, and the rest exist simply because the trade or craft they regulate is sufficiently not like anything else that it has a Guild of its own.

Some of the Guilds also have to deal with the fact that in addition to their own rules and regulations, their area of interest is also part of the portfolio of a deity. In some cases, the resulting Guild is a commercial expression of that deity’s temple, but more usually it is simply that there is a temple looking over the shoulder of everything the Guild does.

In at least two cases, the Guild in question regulates an illegal activity. For obvious reasons, those Guilds do not appear in the annual town parades, and unless you are a member, you will have no idea where the headquarters is, or who is the Guild Master.
