Case Kennon

AKA Cassian or Ka’shi’an, Malakite of Michael

Apperance

Ka’shi’an, Wordbound Angel of Bushido

In appearance, Case stands about 5’10”, and seems surprisingly solid and well built for someone of his height, while still moving with the grace of an experienced martial artist. He has dark brown hair and hazel eyes, and there is a Eurasian caste to his features…after all, Michael knows that this particular servitor has spent as much of his Corporeal time in East as West, and usually builds that into his vessel to some degree.

Case will often be found wearing either bike leathers, or his martial arts gear, which has a black belt, with distinctions for at least three Dans. He usually travels around by bike…his new BMW 1,000cc having been a gift from Michael after he managed to trash his previous bike going one-on-one with a Calabite.

Known Capabilities

First and foremost, Case is a warrior. The kind of warrior who likes to get up close and personal. Preferably with fists (and karate) and swords. In physical combat he’s very fast, and it’s rare that an opponent will get in first strike. He is a black belt with multiple dans in both karate and kendo, and his bladed weapon of choice is a katana. While he can use a gun, he doesn’t normally, preferring a bow if he has to use a ranged weapon at all. He also he has a decent knowledge of strategy and tactics, but prefers small group operations.

Second, he’s rather like those Hong Kong action characters who can run up walls. He’s very athletic, and very acrobatic.

Third, he’s a very patient and experienced teacher of Eastern Martial arts, especially karate and kendo.

He has a slightly odd form of magic, based on his nature as an angel. As part of that, he seems to be able to tell the honour and dishonour of people he looks in the eyes. Yes, he knows if you’ve been naughty or nice. He is also a ritual practitioner and has a reasonably theoretical knowledge of demonology.

Oh, and if you want to talk to someone about the Host, he’s one of the more user-friendly members.

Brief History

As angels go, Ka’shi’an is still comparatively on the young side, taking into account the amount of time since the Fall, having been created by the Archangel Michael around 1500AD St James time. He was first assigned to the Corporeal in the first half of the sixteenth century, and has had a number of different Corporeal vessels since then.

Case’s first experience of incarnation, as a young nobleman named Christopher de Castile, was rather shorter than anyone, including Michael, intended. After all, England in the 1530s was something of a dangerous place, especially if you managed somehow to upset King Henry VIII, and alas the keenness and beliefs of a young angel on his first assignment were just a little too Catholic for the tastes of the time. De Castile was arrested by Henry’s agents and charged with treason, and the vessel died on Tower Hill in 1535, around the same time as Thomas More.

His second time out, he was rather more successful. His Superior having seen that Cassian hadn’t done so well in Europe, he was sent to the other side of the world, and was incarnate in 1570 as a young Japanese boy in the household of one of the great houses. He worked hard, watching out for the influence of the Enemy, and developing martial skills which would help him in this and future incarnations – skills he didn’t get around to learning properly on his previous trip to the Corporeal. After he had been there for about eight years, he had cause to be in battle for his Corporeal overlord, and ended up saving Lord Omi’s life. He was made Samurai, which is when he was given the Muramasa-crafted Daishō he still uses, and served both his earthly master, and more importantly his Heavenly one, for another forty years, before dying in battle in 1618.

Since then, while he has been assigned in both Europe and Asia, and fought in most of the major wars since then, he feels far more affinity for the Eastern traditions than the Western ones. Between Corporeal assignments, he often works as a tutor in The Groves, where young angels are trained in combat.

Case Kennon came into existence in mid-95, initially in London with some time down in Southampton, working largely as a martial arts instructor, in between kicking daemon butt. Eventually, however, he was ordered to present himself to the Regiment of the Keys, and offer them such assistance as they might require. At the moment, that assistance involves him being based at the Hereford SAS base, training both army and Keys personnel. He holds the rank of Major in the Regiment of the Keys.

In all his incarnations, Cassian has been a faithful servant of his master: and has done his best to live up to his personal oath of helping teach mortals to fight the Enemy, as well as standing up for the rights of those too weak to stand up for themselves, and if, along the way, he has occasionally fallen slightly foul of the sin of pride…well, he is a Michaelite, so that comes as part of the package.

He has been granted the Word of Bushido by his Superior, which reflects his affinity for the East.
