City of Amber

The City of Amber itself is built around the base of Mount Kolvir on the sea / estuary side at the mouth of the River Garnath,
stretching up the mountain about 1/4 of the way, with Amber Palace occupying the tip of that area.

Above the Palace is the rest of the mountain, which forms part of the palace precincts, gardens and ‘lands’. The Royal Guard are barracked within the Palace.

The Embassies within the city are located just below the Palace, further down the mountain.

Below them are the mansions and palaces of the aristocracy, along with shops, restaurants and clubs that they would frequent. The Mountainside restaurant is in this area.

Further down the mountain, are the homes of Amber’s merchant class along with the rest of Amber’s ‘new money’ – people who were not born into greatness, but have managed to claw their way to some degree of greatness either because of either associations or by genuine effort of their own.

This is also the part of town that has the Guildhall (the Lord Mayor’s official residence), Cathedral of the Unicorn, the cities main shopping streets, etc. The barracks of the city guard are also located in this area.

Further down still, closer towards the waterfront is the poorer quarters of the City and the factory / warehouse / industrial areas.

Also within this area are the remaining barracks of the Amber based military forces.

Finally, down at the waterfront, on the riverside, you have the Amber docks and the civilian part of Amber harbour.

On the South side is the Admiralty land – including the Admiralty HQ, and all of the shipyards of the Amber navy. Amber’s naval marines form the land guard on the south side round to the sea front and down to beyond the point where the stairs to Rebma come ashore. Only boats can get across to the Admiralty side from the city.
