Jade Fang

Foreign Minister of Animus

Mao Shan, Lawyer, Spec-Ops Agent, Feng Shui Counsel

“A Mao Shan is a sort of Taoist sorceror who talks to spirits and faces down demons and arranges for spiritual defense, among other functions; it’s of a piece with the Feng Shui that helps you to direct the chi of your environment towards your goals. Really, though, it’s the lawyer part that’s the high-status job where I’m from… Which is San Francisco, California, of St. James. I’ve also spent some time in Klieburg, in the Reich; and Amber, on the Outside.”

“Lately, the fascinating and thrilling challenge of connecting Animus to the rest of the realms has been occupying most of my time. I am so lucky that Jonathan and Katerina have collected such a wonderful set of people to work with.”

Jade takes care in her appearance: she’s almost invariably seen in skirts or dresses or tailored skirt suits, keyed to the Realm she’s representing and the situation she expects. High heels, put-together makeup, tasteful jewellery, up-swept hair… She’s taking advantage of the artistry of Animus to branch out fashions.

On missions she generally takes a pack of symbolic or useful sorcerous gear. She has consulted on landscaping, design, and interiors of more than one Spec Ops site, and makes friends among the staff. She speaks Cantonese fluently and has scores of relatives all over Asia and scattered across the Western world. In San Francisco the Fangs are a big name; more elevated branches of the family own a newspaper, and Jade’s uncle Lee is an elected Supervisor on the Board of Supervisors.

Jade’s mother, Siong Li, and her father, Peter Fang, have joined her in Animus.

What can be found by Googling her on St. James:

It turns out her name is unGoogleable. By adding some other bits of known info, with skill and time, it’s possible to turn up a few internet traces… She has a locked-down Facebook page. There are some photos of her laughing at Gamma Phi Beta events at UC Berkeley around the turns of the millennia, and some class listings and a couple essays on contracts from law school at the University of Southern California in the early 2000s. An article from the late 90s about San Franciscans who made it to the state debate finals; her event is listed as extemporaneous speaking. Ancient photo of her in a group of other kids on a Chinatown youth tennis camp site.

How to get in touch:

Spec Ops can always reach her, as can the Animus Embassy on St. James close to Quantico, and the various other Animus Embassies.

  1. Jade is Amazing. Her Mao Shan and Feng Shui skills have proved incredibly useful in situations that have stymied the sorcery abilities of other agents. More important than that she is a warm good hearted person and a dear friend.

  2. “Jade is… well, simply phenomenal.”

“When I approached her the Foreign Minister position of Animus, I felt that she would be a good fit. What I wasn’t ready for was how much she would impress me. She has brought forward great ideas, and Animus would be a paltry shadow without her. The future is very bright with her on board, and I look forward to all the great things we will accomplish together.”
